New Blog (Kinda)

So i've moved from Blogger to Tumblr. This probably means very little to most, especially those who just follow the rss stream but it means there's a very important change.

You can now read my poems, musings, favorite quotes (along with a good portion of awesome pictures and videos from around the web) at the following site:

http://tellmymother.tumblr.com

there's an rss button on there for all you google readers, or just enter this feed: http://tellmymother.tumblr.com/rss into that "Add a subscription" box

The Future Pope

Her Odyssey

I thought the picture here was beautiful and decided to write a story around it (both physically and metaphorically).

A Dusty Mesa

The Last Hour On Earth

This poem means a lot to me for a number of reasons, the greatest being that I read it as a humorous poem about love, and I made it from a story about the Westboro Baptist Crazies. That's what I like about these blackout poems: making something new and sometimes completely opposite from the original words.

Here's the poem in during the creation phase (complete with picture of said Crazies).

I found these two pictures and think they go together.

Specialization

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." - Robert Heinlein

At Arm's Length

Figured I'd post this one, as it's already up on the blogosphere.

Crash

A lot of my poems are a bit depressing. I'll work on that. I posted a more uplifting one just now called A Special Democrat

Salinger

I wrote this one from the New York Times article on Salinger the day after he died. I think it sums up his life pretty well.

Newspaper Blackout Poems

My last few posts are examples of some poems I've written by blacking words on a newspaper. These poems are a blatant copy of the work done by Austin Kleon, but hey art is all about stealing ideas.

I have finally gotten my hands on a scanner so I'm posting some of the poems from the last few weeks. I'll try and keep the updates coming, but no promises.

I would really appreciate some feedback on the poems (content, layout, etc.) so let me know what you think.

Lastly, you should check out the inspiration. He's got some great stuff (even a book!).

New Bands

This blog is becoming more of a fffffound web page, but that's probably all we need right now. Enjoy the videos.

Jay Reatard died recently, but I think he'll always be true punk and this video proves it.

mewithoutYou has moved from the heavier stuff to a more indie-folk sound, but it's all good. This song is probably a favorite because of my love of intricate lyrics and a mild obsession with the toy piano.
